Formula SAE ETS

FSAE Michigan, day 1

Justin Fontolliet, Wed 09 May 2012

As previously planned, the team left Montreal at 7:30 AM on Tuesday. This early departure time allowed the team to arrive in Detroit by 7 :30 PM, just in time for early registration. This would allow us to save precious time on opening day the next morning.

At 7 :30 on Wednesday morning the team arrived at Michigan International Speedway for the first day of competition. The morning was spent setting up the team’s designated area in the pits, as well as making a few adjustments on the car for the first part of technical inspection in the afternoon. The goals of tech inspection is to verify that each car conforms to Formula SAE rules as well as to make sure it’safe to drive on track. Everything in the rule book is checked, from fuel systems to electrical systems to driver’s helmets. Formula ETS Powered by Videotron passed this inspection flawlessly. Team members also took some time to walk around the paddocks to take a look at the other competitors’ cars. As usual, the quality of the cars present is further improved over the previous years, we’re expecting some fierce competition by the other teams.

Thursday, the team will go through the second part of technical inspection and the first points scoring events will also be taking place with the cost, marketing and design events respectively.
