Formula SAE ETS

FSAE Michigan, day 2

Justin Fontolliet, Fri 11 May 2012

The second day of competition began with the final part of technical inspection.

First was the sound test, the sound coming from the exhaust must not exceed 110 Decibels at a certain engine RPM. After that was the tilt test, the car is tilted on it’s side at an angle of 60 degrees, no fluids are allowed to escape. Then was the brake test, the car must be able to lock all four wheels under braking. Formula ETS powered by Videotron managed to pass all these tests on the first try.

In the afternoon was the design, marketing and cost events. In the design presentation, judges from the automotive industry evaluate each car based on their expertise. ETS was chosen as one of 8 finalists tomorrow night out of the 120 teams present.  In the marketing event, a member of the team presents a business plan to potential investors for a production of 1000 cars per year. The cost event is used to evaluate the production cost of the team’s Formula SAE car, the cost report prepared by the team is the main tool used for evaluation by the judges.

Tomorrow is the first day of dynamic events with skidpad, acceleration and autocross. The ETS car is ready to go and the team will be at the track tomorrow morning at 7:00 AM.
